Sunday, July 1 - Moderate hike along the beautiful Goose Creek trail in the Columbine Hondo Wilderness Study Area(WSA), near Red River. Peggy Nelson, long time local resident and activist, will be our guest leader on this exploratory outing into the eastern portion of this high mountain WSA, important for its watersheds and lush forests, which we are working to protect. For over 20 years Jon and Sue Greening of Tijeras have hosted the leaders of the Sierra Club’s Southwest Outings Service trips to Chaco Canyon. It is through the support of good people like theGreenings that the Sierra Club has been able to provide quality outing experiences for well over 320 Chaco Canyon Southwest Outings Service trips participants over the years.


New Mexicans Recognized as Outstanding National Outings Leaders

The Sierra Club's National Outings Program has announced its Outstanding Leaders for 2009. Gene Goldberg and David Van Winkle, both of Santa Fe, were amongst those recognized by National Outings Director Tony Rango. Rochelle Garrett, also of Santa Fe, received this award for 2008.
