Speak out for Energy Savings!

Green Building

Once again, the Martinez Administration has chosen ideology over common sense.

Last month, we told you about Governor Martinez' efforts to roll back our excellent, energy- and money-saving building codes. Thousands of you responded by asking the Administration to keep our codes intact.

Unfortunately, the scene at the Construction Industries Commission meeting, where this issue was decided, was a farce. There was no debate and no mention of the public meetings that had been held. The commission voted 7-1 to scrap the energy conservation code adopted last year.

This roll-back of the building codes increases the cost of new home ownership!

Write a letter to the editor of your local paper -- let them know how crazy this is.

All hope is not lost. Even as the Commission dealt a blow to energy savings, there were glimmers of hope. The City of Albuquerque stuck up for the people of New Mexico, and voted to maintain those energy-saving codes. A few days later, the Las Cruces Sun-News came out with a fantastic editorial1 exposing the Commission’s decision to roll back the code.

We're not giving up, and we hope you aren't either. It's no longer just about energy efficiency measures that save consumers money and help improve our environment; it’s now a matter of transparency in government and respect for due process as well.

Don't let the Martinez Administration get away with ignoring the public. Keep the pressure on and write a letter to the editor today.

Thank you for all that you do for a clean energy future.
