Explore a "new" badlands replete with colorful rock formations, amusing hoodoos, gigantic iron concretions eroding from the soil, and an impressive grove of large grandfather junipers. All off trail, some steep areas. See why we think that this area should be protected. Several high-clearance vehicles needed; driving via Bernalillo. Strenuous Hike in the Latir Wilderness near Questa, one of the nicest areas in the state, to include Venado Pk and Latir Pk. 15 mile loop, 3700’ gain, 8-9 hours hiking. Two hour drive to trail head. Most of you know that the Rio Grande Chapter offers hiking, bike rides, snowshoeing, and cross-country ski tours. But many of you may not know that the Sierra Club also offers more than 300 national and international outings every year.

Four of our local Sierra Club leaders are offering national and international outings in 2010 and 2011.


New Mexicans Recognized as Outstanding National Outings Leaders

Santa Fe Baldy

The Sierra Club's National Outings Program has announced it's Outstanding Leaders for 2009. Gene Goldberg and David Van Winkle, both of Santa Fe, were amongst those recognized by National Outings Director Tony Rango. Rochelle Gerratt, also of Santa Fe, received this award for 2008.
